Marriage Recipe #1

Recently, I have been thinking about the workings of a marriage.  I am by no means an expert.  I only have a little over 3 years of marriage under my belt.  I know I have a long way to go before I can give real advice.  I mean if I think about it, I've had a longer relationship with my favorite pair of jeans than I have with my husband. But I really hope that we are part of that elite group of couples who "make it".  I'm fairly certain we will.

I mean, there is the simple fact that I have threatened to hunt my husband down and kill him if he ever leaves me.
Also ,I am spawned from a relationship that began over 47 years ago. Read "47 Memories".  And every time I look at my parents I see us.  Now, in someways that's really scary because what woman ever wants to admit they are just like their mother? But I am.

Yeah, I said it.

I am controlling, stubborn, sarcastic, and emotional. Sounds just like mom!  And my hubby is just like my dad. He's quiet, laid-back, slow to anger, patient. Complete opposites but...
And though my parents may fight like cats and dogs after 47 years of marriage; I know that they wouldn't change a thing.  They love each other down to the bone.

So other than threats and it being in my blood, I also wasn't naive coming into this marriage.  We both made sure that we knew each other very well before we decided to get married.  We lived with each other and learned each other's habits and ways of thinking.  We know that we are who we are and we can't change each other.  And that, my friends, is the kicker.

WE CAN'T CHANGE EACH OTHER.

This is why I think many marriages/relationships fail. Many people believe that they can change a person.  You can't change anyone except yourself.  You can't just sober up a alcoholic, because you wish it.  The alcoholic must choose to enter into rehab and start the recovery process.  You can't change a ho into a housewife.  Oh wait, sorry that was a 2pac song.  But Mr. Shakur was right, you can't.

I knew exactly what I was getting into when I decided on marriage.  I didn't once think...
"Oh well, he'll stop doing that when we get married"
or
"That's ok, he'll change that for me".

I thought "Ok, he does this _____ am I ok with it? Can I live with this for the rest of my life?"

Many people forget or don't realize that change only happens internally.  They get blinded by a sparkly ring and a big wedding.  They get so caught up "being in love", that they don't know that love is actually accepting another person, flaws and all.

Women tend to overlook the fact that maybe their man is really a superficial douche bag. You may be young and hot today.  But when you push out 3 kids and work full time, you start to look a little rough around the edges.   However, your husband still wants to come home to the hottie he married.  So, when he ends up cheating on you with little miss hot stuff, can you really get mad?

Now don't go crazy on me people.  Just listen!

I mean if he told you from the beginning  "It's important that my girl always looks good".  Did you really listen to him?  Or did your translate that into "Baby, you're beautiful".  Because if you really listened you would have followed that statement with a line of questioning. " What do you mean by ALWAYS?".  "Like if I gain 100 lbs you won't love me anymore? If I get hit by a bus and I'm horribly disfigured you will leave me?". "How about if I get lazy for a couple of months and don't go to my threading salon and I have a forest growing where eyebrows should be, will you still love me?"

Ok, yes I used a very superficial example.  But it's these simple little statements that get dismissed.  These are clues as to the type of person you are dating.  It's a part of getting to know each other.  It's called communication.

Yes, communication.  Sounds so simple, everyone knows this is important but so few people actually practice this age old art.  Talk it out people.  Don't talk it out with your boys, don't call the ladies and have a sobfest when you are having relationship problems.

TALK IT OUT WITH EACH OTHER.

Only the two of you know your relationship inside and out. Don't try to compare you're relationship to anyone else's. And you can't scream and you can't yell.  You can't accuse and you can't lie.  Don't ask a question that you don't want to know the answer to.  Don't ask a question and assume you already know the answer.  Don't assume the other person knows how you are feeling.  Tell them what you are feeling and why.  And then actually LISTEN and try to understand.  A little bit of give and take.

And somehow, I have turned this post into a Dr. Phil episode.  My deepest apologies.

Back to my point...

Oh, right.  What makes a marriage work? Well, mine will because I say it will.  And because divorce is not an option.  My husband and I always think of Will Smith** during his interview with Ellen Degeneres in 2008.

"What I found is divorce just can’t be an option. It’s really that simple. And I think that’s the problem with L.A. – there are so many options. So a huge part of the success for [Jada] and I is that we just removed the other options.”
I completely agree.  When you rule out any other option when times get tough, you absoultely have to work things out.

We're not perfect and we don't expect each other to be. He always keeps me in check when the crazy in me comes out.  And I'm his rock when he can't do it all by himself.  When we decided that we were going to get married, we decided on forever.  We decided that our lives together are far better than our lives apart.  And as long as we hold on to that thought, that single notion, that we make each other better just by being together.  Well, then I think we have a pretty good shot.  And on that note, cue sappy love quote...

So it's not going to be easy.  It's going to be really hard.  And we're going to have to work at this every day.  But I want to do that because I want you.  I want all of you, forever, every day.
                                           ~The Notebook

** I refuse to believe any of the rumors that Will and Jada's marriage is on the rocks.  Simply because that will totally ruin my whole strategy.

47 Memories

Dear Mommy and Daddy-

In honor of your anniversary, I decided to list 47 memories of our family. Because without your love and commitment to each other, I would not be here and I would not have all these wonderful memories to call upon. It's funny how much I feel that Ty and I are like you two. And I sincerely hope that we have at least half the strength and love that you two have for each other. I know that marriage is not easy and it takes hard work. Nowadays, people don't even try and give up too easily or they get married for the wrong reasons. Since I was brought up in a household where the husband respected and treated his wife as an equal, I made sure I looked for that in my relationship. So, thank you for giving me these experiences that I can think back on and smile. And hopefully, you will read these and continue to smile with each other.

1- Listening to Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis Christmas Records

2- Staying up until 5am in the morning watching TV with Mommy when we first got cable and the new big screen.

3- Road trips to Louisiana and stopping at waffle house and Popeyes

4- Road trips to Connecticut and stopping at KFC

5- Making apple Pie with Mommy

6- Going into dramatics when Mommy would make fruit salad, because I hated it.

7- Watching over 15 VHS tapes of recorded Christmas Movies and TV specials every holiday season. Daddy's favorite: the grinch (animated) Mommy's favorite: The snowman

8- Telling Mommy, I was going to marry my brother when I grew up. And me not understanding when she said I couldn't.

9- The broken wooden paddle in the kitchen that was duct taped together. It was broken on my brother's butt before I was born and my parents never had to use it again! (sidenote for 21st century parents, kids need a good smack once in awhile!)

10- Waking up early Saturday morning and trying to put on the TV without waking anyone up. This was very difficult since we had the old TV that had the button you had to pull and the dials made loud clicking noises when you turned them to change channels.

11- Singing along to Disney soundtracks in the car with daddy.

12- Helping Mommy hang up laundry on the clothesline

13- Stacking wood. I hated doing that!

14- Trying to roller skate in the house with fisher price "my first skates". You know the ones that buckled over your shoes.

15- Getting picked up from school every Wednesday for ballet practice and having Chinese food for dinner

16- Camping...too many good ones to list

17- Daddy shooting the rabid raccoons in the backyard. Don't tell PETA

18- Catching my first fish at swinging bridge

19- Father/daughter dinner dance and daddy wearing that corduroy blazer

20- Daddy's Indiana Jones hat

21- Being the only ones in the theater watching Cinderella when it was re-released.

22- Going to the Orange Plaza and getting orange Julius' and chocolate croissants

23- Twilight zone marathons on New Year's Eve, when they were on channel 11

24- Watching Friday night videos and daddy singing along to LL cool J's Big Ole Butt

25- Daddy taking me to my hair appointments to get my hair relaxed

26- My parents dancing up a storm at my brother's wedding

27- Unknowingly swimming with sharks at grand isle in Louisiana and daddy saying they were just dolphins

28- Doing shots with my sister and mom in Jamaica

29- Eating at El bandido and Daddy having too many mexican coffees. We had to hang out at Media Play for a while before he could drive home.

30-Practicing parallel parking at the high school. I have never been able to do it again since my road test.

31- Mommy loosing her glasses in the ocean when we visited my brother in Atlantic city

32- Mommy being upset she couldn't see the prostitutes on the corner at Atlantic city because she lost her glasses

33- Latch hook with mommy

34- Computer fairs with daddy

35- Running the kids race at the orange classic and getting robbed a trophy! I totally won that, we know the truth!

36- Hearing stories of Mom and Dad riding on a motorcycle together. I still can't imagine this.
37- Going to the city every Christmas to see the tree.

38- Birthday dinners at Gasho and getting bopped on the head

39- Eating dinner together every night while watching NBC news and Roseanne reruns.

40- Mom and Dad cheering me on at my track meets

41- Taking my sister to the ER when she sprained her ankle during softball.  I wanted her crutches so bad!
42- Feeding carrots and apples to our horse, Jimmy.
43- Baking pumpkin cookies for Thanksgiving.

44- Going grocery shopping with Mommy. At Lloyd's I would get a free cookie and we would have lunch at the little restaurant.

45- Watching trashy movies and Dawson's Creek with mommy

46- Watching Buffy and Roswell with daddy

47- Saturday trips to the library or the used book store.

Addict...

I am officially an addict. I was incapable of functioning at work today. In fact, I decided to walk crosstown to 9th ave just to get my fix of Magnum. Do you know how long those avenues are in midtown? All for a damn ice cream bar. Magnum needs to increase its distribution in Manhattan. They should set up magnum dispensers next to every Chase ATM. That way I can satisfy my craving on every other block. And since I am such a caring person, I shared with two of my co-workers. I'm not sure if they thanked me or silently cursed me for pushing magnum bars.

I wonder if there is a 12-step program?

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?

I have a 10 year plan.  It came to me at about 11am on Tuesday morning while I was walking along the beach in Miami.

I WANT TO LIVE HERE

Ok, maybe not Miami exactly. But at that moment, Miami was perfect.  It was warm, the sun was shining bright, I was walking half in the sand and half in the water.  There were families playing in the sand and groups of friends playing frisbee.  People of all different cultures, and backgrounds surrounded me and at that exact moment I experienced bliss.  I didn't have a care in the world.  All I could think of was how I wanted to wake up every morning and walk along the beach.

So my plan is to move out of the city that I had once said I would never leave.  I need to be by the water and sand and sun.  A beach within walking distance is required.  Long Island will not work, neither will Jersey.  I want something new and light and refreshing.  I want the south.

So, there a few things I need to do before I can move.

- PAY OFF DEBT...this is part of my shorter 5-year plan
- SAVE MONEY...I want a condo
- FIGURE OUT MY CAREER...I will need a job, unfortunately

- GET INTO SHAPE...beach everyday? umm, yeah i want my 16-year old body back
- EAT HEALTHIER...so, i can get into shape

-CONVINCE HUSBAND OF 10 YEAR PLAN...i don't want a divorce

One day, I'll be able to do this EVERY day....

Tè Tremblé: Remembering the Earthquake in Haiti

I know it's been a while since I posted. But please do not expect to read a cheery, happy, food blog today.  Today is about being thankful and appreciative of everything that we, as Americans, take for granted everyday.

On January 12, 2010 Haiti was rocked by one of the worst natural disasters to ever take place.  12 months later and my father's native country has not improved much.  I am sharing a link below to a report about Haiti from Democracy Now.  But in case you are all too lazy to actually watch the clip, chew on this.
-Over 1 million people are still homeless
-There is hardly any food, clean water, or sanitation.
-Less than 5% of rubble has been cleared.
-Only 15% of the temporary housing that is needed, has been built
-Less than 10% of the $9 billion pledged by foreign donors has been delivered.
-3600 people have died from the cholera outbreak
-Women and young girls are facing sexual violence.

When you finish reading this post I want you all to realize just how lucky we are.  Be thankful and appreciative of your family, home, and food.  Perhaps, you could all try to complain a little less each day.  When something goes wrong, think to yourself  "Is this really going to matter 12 months from now, or even 12 hours from now?"  Tell your family you love them, savor and enjoy that cheeseburger, drink a huge glass of water, take a long hot shower,  take a dump and flush twice.  And then thank your lucky stars that you live in America.  Our country is far (and I mean faaarrr from perfect).  But it could be a lot worse.  Alot.

If I worked for Kanye

So I was thinking that if I had an IN with Kanye West, I would suggest a meeting for him with one of the major ballet companies (preferrebly one in NY so I could see this wonderful idea of mine come into action) It would be a Kanye West/Ballet smash-up to coincide with his new album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy". Since Runaway worked so well with ballet, why not take it a little further.

You could keep the phoenix story-line going, or perhaps a kanyefied version of The Red Shoes.

Not sure if anyone remembers The Joffrey Ballet's production of Billboards in 1993 that featured all music by Prince.
My dad taped this for me from an airing on PBS and I used to watch it non-stop. In fact, I'm thisclose to buying someones' used VHS copy they are selling on amazon for $19.

This production worked quite nicely for Prince, let's go Kanye.

And remember, you heard it here first. If this actually happens, I want some damn credit Mr. West.

life imitates sesame street...

So, I was browsing some sesame street videos. Yeah, yeah yeah, I know i really need to get over my elmo obsession.

But I realized that even though I have "grown up" (sort of) Sesame Street is still relevant in my life.

SESAME STREET vs. MY JOB

Oh doogie, I think I was hired at the wrong company.  We are way behind the times.
I didn't know that all I needed was a pair of fairy wings and a broadway singing voice.
I could have the entire fall collection done in a snap.

SESAME STREET vs. PERSONAL APPEARANCE

It's taken me all of my life to finally love my hair. And just for the record I have worn my hair "up", "down", "twisted all around".  Yup, braids and pigtails too.  And "in barettes" and "flying free".   I'm convinced that someone at the Jim Henson workshop found pictures of me as a child and molded this little girl after me.  I have finally found my muppet twin.

SESAME STREET vs. MY MARRIAGE

kissing, hugging, friends, helping....yup that pretty much sums it up.  Grover may have left out a few crucial elements but he got the basics....good enough for me.  Maybe the US government should watch this.

SESAME STREET vs. MY DIET

enough said

SESAME STREET vs. PERSONAL HYGIENE

OK, so I don't smell like a monster.  But this is hilarious and I had to share it!

So, thank you Sesame Street for still teaching me a thing or two.

Happy Birthday, Grandma

Today would have been my grandmother's 101st birthday.  17 days ago she passed away and re-joined my grandfather after 35 years apart.  Those who know me, know I am not religious; but I like to think that they  are together again in some shape or form.  My grandmother raised 4 amazing children, one of them being my father, Marcel.  My daddy is the most amazing man in the world.  He is patient and kind, incredibly smart, always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend or a stranger.  My husband grew up without having a father in his life, so I know how lucky I am that mine is so great.  Some of my best memories with my dad are taking the trips to Groton, CT to visit Grandma.  The three hour rides were usually spent listening to Disney movie soundtracks and stopping in New Haven for Kentucky Fried Chicken.  And when we would get to grandma's house I would always look for her face peeking out from behind the curtains; waiting for us.  We would spend the day at the beach near her house or take a ride to Mystic Seaport.  I used to love to look at all the books that she had on her shelves and all the pictures of family in her bedroom.  And when we would leave (after my dad drank some of grandma's very strong coffee) she would always give me a hug and a kiss and slip money in my hand.  And it wasn't about the money, it was the way she did it.  Grandma would fold the money up and slide it in my hand really slick-like and then smile big and make sure I didn't try to give it back.

Over the years I lost touch with my grandma.  I guess life just got in the way.  I am regretful that I didn't talk to her more often on the phone or go see her on weekends.  I am not sad that my grandmother passed away, I know that she lived a very long and very full life.  My family is incredibly lucky to have had her in our lives for so long.  I am more sad that I didn't get a chance to know my grandmother more intimately in my adult life.  I am sad that I didn't get a chance to show my grandmother who I am and who I have grown up to be.  I know that my love of sunshine and reading I inherited from her.  My independence and strong will is also a part of her.  And though grandma is no longer with us physically she is still a part of my family in all of our hearts.

Below is a chronology my Uncle Rudolph wrote of the incredible life of my grandmother, Else Milfort.
    1. Else's earliest memories as a 5year in her birth town of Diedenhofen, Germany, were vivid. It was a small town in the Alsace region - a disputed area with France. Memories included fear, hunger and  the sights and fearsome sounds of a raging WW I.
    2. The family moved to and Else worked in Berlin as a teacher. Her two brothers pre-deceased her by more than 60 years.... the younger brother during WW II as a German Luftwaffe pilot, whose body was never recovered.
    3. Else's last employment in Germany was as a governess to 2 children of a Jewish family. Thus began her movements away from her native country. First,  accompanying the children out of Germany, to re-unite them with their  parents in Czechoslovakia where they had escaped to earlier; then to Amsterdam with the family, and finally, with the family, to the Dominican Republic. She met her husband Marcel there, fell in love and married, and yet another transition of her life began.
    4. Their lives moved several times between the Dominican Republic and Haiti on that 2 country island of Hispaniola, with each of the two pairs of the boy/girl sets of children born in each of the two countries.........Marcel and Evelyne in the Dominican Republic and Rudolph and Sonia in Haiti.
    5. Else's transitional life once again was destined for change, when in 1949 she moved to the United States - traveling with 4 children in tow, to join her husband who had come here 3years earlier, to work, send money back to Haiti, and save enough to send for her and the children.
    6. Else and Marcel successfully nurtured, raised and educated their 4 children. All this during an era that was very different from the world we live in today. Her strength, commitment, devotion and love for her family are to be marveled at, acknowledged and appreciated.
    7. The next transition came 35 years ago in 1975, when her husband Marcel passed away. She accepted that loss with the same strength she had displayed her entire life. She found renewed happiness in other things that brought her joy. The simplicity of sitting in the sunshine - which she truly loved. Her love for Opera and especially her all time favorite performer Placido Domingo -- whose collection of autographed books and photographs, secured at live performances, was truly cherished. She was able to travel on several occasions with her daughters, back to Haiti and Germany.
    8. Else's next transition, at age 96, came 41/2 years ago when she moved into Fairview in Groton. At that age she acknowledged that she could use a little help in her daily life. The care, respect and understanding that the staff provided allowed her to thrive at her age, and enjoy those simple things that continued to bring her joy.
    9. Today we honor the memory of this extraordinary woman, wife, and mother whose strength, love, devotion, and independence were lived on a daily basis throughout her entire life. All who knew her were enriched by her.

More than food

I have recently been toying with the idea of blogging about other topics.

¿quĂ©?

Yeah, I know..."skinny girl's FAT adventures" found on www.cheesyfriedgoodness.blogspot.com.
That doesn't really sound like the place you would find posts about my random thoughts on family, work, politics, tv, music, etc. I mean from the few people that actually read this blog, they all really seem to love the subject matter. If it's not broke don't fix it. Right?

RIGHT?

Except for the fact that my FAT adventures include more than just food. Just like everyone else I am traveling this journey called life and I'm not just eating my way through it. I am loving my way through it. I am crying my way through it. I am scratching my head and wondering how the hell am I going to get through it.

My life is CHEESY in that my marriage is warm and gooey with love but also a little salty. My life is FRIED, in that I am exhausted both physically and mentally from my job. But all in all my life is GOODNESS.

So maybe just maybe, this skinny girl can write about more than just food.

Randomness

Sorry bloggy blog! I know I have neglected you but please know that I still love you. In an effort to make amends here is a collection of pictures featuring foods I have experienced of the last few months.

"Five Guys"- cheeseburger and Cajun fries

"MacBar"-cheeseburger macaroni and cheese

"Waffle House"- waffles, bacon, eggs, and cheese covered hash browns

"Wet Willies"- Bar food with slushie drinks made with diesel grain alcohol.

"Sonic"- chili cheese dog, fries, chocolate shake

"Mama Mexico"- the only guacamole I'll eat.

"Max Brenners"- churros and hazelnut shake

"The River Grill"- filet mignon, t-bone steak, and duck....my dinner, my husbands dinner, and my mom's dinner

"El Bandido"- taco, burrito, enchilada combo

Hot, Hot, Hot

Date: August 17, 2010
Destination: Island Burgers & Shakes
Location: 766 9th Ave bet. 51st & 52nd street
Partner(s): Xtina

Death by Jalapeño pepper, this is not how I thought my life would end.  However, at about 7pm tonight that was exactly the thought running through my mind.  I like to think that I am pretty good with spice and hot foods.  I tend to put hot sauce on many common items such as pizza, eggs, chicken, spaghetti, etc.  I even eat whole jalapeño peppers.

Well at least I thought I ate whole jalapeño peppers.  I have since learned that this:

...is a pickled banana pepper.

and these....

....are the devils that caused my lips to swell, my tongue to set fire, and my eyes to water.

Needless to say,  I am a pepper novice.
:sigh:
I feel so inadequate.

Peppers aside I did end up eating at an awesome burger/shake joint tonight.  This little hole in the wall on the west side has an amazing menu.

Any menu that describes a meal as "BIG ASS" is a definite WIN!

I of course had to start off with a shake:

Then we needed a little appetizer called "Chiliworks with chips":

And then I got to the burger.  I ordered the El Camino (medium well burger, bacon, jack cheese, ranch dressing on sourdough bread)  I somehow thought it would be a good and tasty idea to order jalapeño peppers too.:

INSANITY!

I highly recommend this place.  The location is tiny, but the menu is huge!

* Side-note: they do not serve their burgers with French fries.  Instead they have a huge baked potato or potato chips!  yummy yummy in my tummy sans jalapeños!

My current lunch addiction

Date: July 19, 2010
Destination: Benihana
Location: 47 west 56th street bet. 5th and 6th ave.
Partner(s): Co-workers

Ok, so this may not fall under my usual categories of fried, covered in cheese, or dipped in chocolate; but it is seasoned thoroughly with salt so it gets a pass.

I HAVE A LUNCHTIME INFATUATION WITH BENIHANA.

Yes, the Japanese hibachi steakhouse. The same place that bops you on the head and takes a photo if you tell them its your birthday. I have been there 3 times in the past week. I can't stop. They have a fantabulous lunch special, which happens to price out the same as getting a sandwich and a bag a chips at any of the local deli's. In my book this definitely constitutes as more bang for your buck. I got to enjoy salad, hibachi chicken or steak (I go back and forth between the two), vegetable fried rice and veggies for around $10.

Ok, so what... I leave there smelling like hibachi, most of the chef's aren't even Japanese, and my fingers and toes swell to double their size because of the salt. But they have GINGER SAUCE and an onion volcano!

Enough said.

Missing you...

I believe I made a resolution back in April that I would post more often......

:cricket, cricket:

Ummm, yeah. I'm a liar.

I don't know what happened, it's not like I stopped eating or anything. I will keep trying to post my fatty experiences, and maybe a few others that deserve recognition.

Don't worry bloggy blog, I will never abandon you completely.

So, here is a quick photo of one of my favorite snacks with instructions on how to eat it skinny FAT girl style. I would have included pictures with each step, but I had already inhaled these cookies by the time I had the thought that maybe I should blog about them. I have no control :/

Step 1- pour milk into small glass.
Step 2- remove package of Double Stuf Oreos from kitchen cabinet.
Step 3- grab a paper towel (this will be important at the end)
Step 4- sit on a comfy couch in front of large television and put on a good movie (my movie pick today- Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Step 5- place milk, cookies, and paper towel on folding tv tray directly in front of you
Step 6- remove one cookie from package and hold between your thumb and index finger.
Step 7- Dunk cookie into milk completely drowning the cookie and the tips of your fingers.
Step 8- The cookie will cause the milk to form bubbles, wait until cookie stops bubbling approximately 8-10 seconds.
Step 9- remove cookie from milk and shake to remove excess milk
Step 10- shove entire cookie into mouth and enjoy!
*repeat steps 6-10 until an entire row of cookies is devoured

Phone test with Mac and Cheese

This is a test to see if the love of my life (my iPhone) will allow me to publish posts on the go.

I just finished prepping my macaroni and cheese dish for tomorrows Easter dinner with the fam.

I really want to bake and eat it now. :(

Hopefully, if this blog app works. I'll be able to show you all the end product tomorrow.

G'nite all!

trailer trash and bald men....huh?

Ok, so I have learned that I am actually a terrible blogger.  I have not posted in over 2 weeks.  Shame, shame on me!  My excuse--the weather, maybe if it wasn't a torrential downpour everyday, and I saw a little sunshine every now and then; I might want to venture out into the concrete jungle.  My new April resolution is to post more frequently.   Hopefully today's beautiful weather is the start of a new sunshiny trend. With that being said, please proceed with the following post without judgment.  I am still feeling the aftershock of a the mess that I ate tonight.  As good as it all was, even my stomach was a bit stretched and feeling a little constricted in my skinny jeans. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation do not count!

So, my fatty fat buddy and I needed a reunion.  We hadn't gotten together since shake shack and waffles.  She just got back from Puerto Rico (so jealous!) and I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather.  OK, I lie I was just hungry.  We decided to head down to 23rd street and check out Trailer Park Lounge.  My mom had mentioned this place to me a while back and I remembered walking by it when I was at FIT.  The place is a riot!  It is super kitschy, decorated with all the crap you would find in Uncle Billy Bob's back yard. There were giant plastic snowmen, old store mannequins, tiki lights, and even a bowling pin lamp.

MY personal favorite was a picture of Santa Elvis!
So, let's get to the goodstuff...
Gotta love the roll of paper towels on the table!  I don't know about the rest of you, but that's what I use for napkins in my house.  There was no question....i was going for the Chili Dog with a side of tater tots.  Xtina went for the philly cheesesteak.

I really think the pictures speak for themselves....ummm YUM YUM!  My one mistake was that I didn't order cheese on the chilidog.  But you know you have a good friend when she shares her cheese.  Yes, Xtina did scrape peices of cheese from her sandwich onto my chili dog.  Now, that's love!!!

Feeling very satisfied but not quite ready to go home, we decided we needed dessert.  Sooo...it was off to the Bald Man!  Max Brenner's house of deliciousness. This place is a chocolate lover's dream.  And if you know me, you know I love my chocolate.  The moment you walk through the door you smell chocolate, I have to use all sorts of self control not to dip my head into the huge tubs of churning chocolate.  We decided we need Milkshakes.  Now normally, these monster drinks would be enough to satisfy the sweet craving.
But noooo....I'm greedy I had to order the "Melting Chocolate Truffle Heart Cake".  This fabulous chocolate cake is filled with your choice of raspberry, milk chocolate, or caramel filling (caramel for me please), served with vanilla bourbon ice cream, strawberries, and a milk chocolate shot.  Wait, a milk chocolate shot?? Yes it is shotglass filled with pure chocolate covered in whip cream.  Basically this was a diabetic's nightmare!

:sigh:....I'm in heaven and I don't ever want to leave.   Until next time, this is skinny fat girl signing out and hopefully not entering a diabetic coma.
