Tè Tremblé: Remembering the Earthquake in Haiti

I know it's been a while since I posted. But please do not expect to read a cheery, happy, food blog today.  Today is about being thankful and appreciative of everything that we, as Americans, take for granted everyday.

On January 12, 2010 Haiti was rocked by one of the worst natural disasters to ever take place.  12 months later and my father's native country has not improved much.  I am sharing a link below to a report about Haiti from Democracy Now.  But in case you are all too lazy to actually watch the clip, chew on this.
-Over 1 million people are still homeless
-There is hardly any food, clean water, or sanitation.
-Less than 5% of rubble has been cleared.
-Only 15% of the temporary housing that is needed, has been built
-Less than 10% of the $9 billion pledged by foreign donors has been delivered.
-3600 people have died from the cholera outbreak
-Women and young girls are facing sexual violence.

When you finish reading this post I want you all to realize just how lucky we are.  Be thankful and appreciative of your family, home, and food.  Perhaps, you could all try to complain a little less each day.  When something goes wrong, think to yourself  "Is this really going to matter 12 months from now, or even 12 hours from now?"  Tell your family you love them, savor and enjoy that cheeseburger, drink a huge glass of water, take a long hot shower,  take a dump and flush twice.  And then thank your lucky stars that you live in America.  Our country is far (and I mean faaarrr from perfect).  But it could be a lot worse.  Alot.
